Jeremy Pearse
Jeremy Pearse has been drawing and painting from an early age. He says for him "art has been a process full of life and discovery." He paints in both watercolor and oil, using pen and ink primarily for wildlife illustration. Landscapes and wildlife are his favorite subjects which he often combines into exquisitely detailed, finely executed paintings.
Jeremy Pearse was born in Devon, England. After living in Europe, South Africa and Hong Kong, he now paints from his studio in Maryland. Growing up in rural England fostered a love for the beauty of landscape which has continued with him today. With no formal tuition, art for him is more instinctual and has been a process full of life, experimentation and discovery. Most of his early paintings were in oil although now he works in many different media including watercolor and acrylic.
Because of his dedication to environmental issues, much of Jeremy’s earlier work went to conservation groups. While living in Hong Kong he supplied many illustrations and paintings to the World Wide Fund for Nature and also to local books and magazines.
His work includes landscapes typical of the Eastern Shore area as well as scenes observed on his many travels around the globe. His work has all the resonance of sudden discovery - from watercolors of an ancient Mosque in Egypt to large oils of a gentle dawn breaking over the Southern Californian desert.
Although primarily a studio painter, he still spends as much time in the field as he can, watching, drawing and painting the landscape as well as birds and animals. Collections of his work are to be found in private and corporate collections around the world.
The Gilcrease Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum have exhibited Jeremy Pearse’s paintings. His work has been published in Bird Watchers Digest, “The Owls of North America,” and “The Best of Wildlife Painting” by North Light Books, and more recently; ‘Easy Solutions: Color Mixing for Watercolor’ - Quarry Books. His paintings are in corporate and private collections internationally.
