The Vision: To celebrate the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay of yesterday and today.
Exhibition: September 14 - October 5, 2008
For many years the Chesapeake Bay and its environs have been captured by photographers and artists in film or on canvas. From colonial sea battles to visiting historic square-riggers, steamboats ferrying passengers, and workboats like the graceful skipjacks, bugeyes and log canoes to its unique octagonal lighthouses, the Bay has a lot to offer the artist. Life continues to thrive around this body of water, not just the human variety, but great blue herons, crabs, rockfish, and osprey who live in and around the water, the great marshes, small inlets and islands. The small harbor towns, some still tied economically to the Bay, add a quaintness and historic character along the many miles of sandy or marshy shorelines.
