Location: McBride Gallery, 215 Main St, Annapolis, MD 21401
While visiting Kenya with her family in August of 2006, artist Nancy Howe could not help but feel compassion for the native pastoral nomadic people of northern Kenya. Her visit to Kenya had a profound impact on her life and marked the beginning of a mission to help impoverished women through her paintings. Her trip inspired her to create “Painting a Brighter Future for Women,” a project to raise funding to support women’s small business development in Kenya through donations and sales from her original artwork of these people.
Since then, the project has expanded to include other areas of the world, beginning with a cultural series of the people of Bhutan where donations will support a women’s solar engineer program and home construction in remote villages. A series of paintings of the Kuna indigenous people of Panama will benefit their marine resource environmental training.
