"100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic Exhibition”

Annapolis, MD - McBride Gallery, 215 Main Street, presents “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic” The receptions to meet the artists are Saturday, November 15, 5:00 - 9:00pm and Sunday, November 16, from 1 - 4 pm. Author and plein air painter, Gary Pendleton will speak at both events. The exhibit runs from November 15 to December 7.

Host Gallery for 2014 Exhibition: McBride Gallery

Established in 1980, McBride Gallery, 215 Main Street in Annapolis is hosting 100 Plein Air Painters from the 5-state area who are featured in the newly published book by Maryland author and painter, Gary Pendleton. Situated overlooking Chesapeake Bay, the historic city of Annapolis has been rated one of the country’s Top Waterfront Towns by National Geographic Adventure magazine and one of the Top Ten most walkable cities. The gallery is located in a Georgian-style home with seven rooms and the original colonial fireplaces.

Two Days of Events: All events are free and open to the public

Saturday, November 15 ~ Plein Air Painting in Downtown Annapolis  -

9:00am Complimentary coffee at McBride Gallery
Two plein air painting sessions beginning at 9:30 and 1:30
Bring your painting supplies and join the Plein Air painters from the 5-state area who are in Gary Pendleton’s book, “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic” for a great day of painting in historic downtown Annapolis.

Local artists are welcome. All skill levels welcome.

David Diaz, plein air painter, Annie Award Winner in the Visual Arts and former Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association (MAPAPA) Chair, will guide artists from the 5-state area to some of his favorite painting locations along City Dock, Main Street and in Eastport. This is a MAPAPA sponsored painting event.

Break for lunch (on your own - many wonderful restaurants and cafes in Annapolis)

1:30pm Second session of Plein Air painting in Downtown Annapolis
Meet at McBride Gallery for a David Diaz guide to his favorite painting locations in Annapolis.

3:00pm – 3:30pm  Power Point Presentation and Discussion
"Lineage of Color Exploration - Monet to Hawthorne to Hensche and Beyond"
Annapolis painter, John Ebersberger will lead a discussion about the changes in color in plein air painting over the years. Ebersberger is one of the founders of MAPAPA and is an Annie Award Winner in the Visual Arts. He studied at the The Cape School with Henry Hensche and with noted painters, Cedric and Joanette Egeli and is now a sought-after portrait painter and painting instructor in the Annapolis area.

Book Signing at McBride Gallery - Artists will be at the gallery to autograph books throughout the day

11:00 - 4:00 Painting Demonstrations at McBride Gallery - Artists will be at the gallery demonstrating painting techniques

Preview Days - Paintings will be on display for early public viewing on Friday and Saturday, November 14 and 15.

5:00pm Opening Reception for the show, 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic

7:00pm Presentation by Gary Pendleton, plein air painter and author of the historic book, “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic.”

Sunday, November, 16 ~ Afternoon Event - Meet the Artists

1:00 - 4:00pm Opening House for the show, 100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic

2:00pm Author of the book and Plein air painter, Gary Pendleton will talk about the impetus for the book and share stories of some of the artists he discovered.

Parking Notes:

Parking is free on Main Street before 10:00am and after 7:30pm. The Parking Garage on Bladen and St. John’s Streets is Free to the public on Saturday and Sunday. See the gallery website for links to additional parking areas and traveling directions.
