Lisa Mitchell is an award-winning Maryland artist who works in both oil and pastel. She has been juried into significant plein air competitions including Plein Air Easton, Paint Annapolis, Mountain Plein Air, and Gunpowder Falls Plein Air to name a few.
Respected by her peers she served as President of the Maryland Pastel Society 2005 -2007. Lisa is a Past President and Signature Member of the Maryland Pastel Society, and the Maryland Portrait Painters Society. She is also a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painter’s Association.
Mitchell has been published in Pastel Journal, December 2010, with a tour of her art studio; in April 2011 featuring her painting, "Look Beneath the Surface" and for receiving an Honorable Mention award in the 2011 Pastel 100 competition. In 2017 she was the featured artist in an article in the June/July issue of Plein Air Magazine, a national publication.
Lisa continues her art education by attending international conferences as well as national workshops. She has studied with nationally known artists Doug Dawson, Bob Rohm, Richard McKinley, Kenn Backaus, Kim English, David Leffel and Susan Ogilvie.
Lisa Mitchell received her formal art education at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, concentrating her studies in Illustration and Graphic Design. She began her career as a portrait painter painting children’s portraits. She has since expanded her focus to include paintings of landscapes en plein air and in the studio, still life and figurative works.
In March 2011, Lisa was invited to participate in a unique exhibit, "Each One Invites One" at McBride Gallery in Annapolis, MD. In 2012 she exhibited in the invitational show: "Artists Favorite Places", in 2016 "The Classic Landscape" and in 2018 a Solo Show, "Texture and Light at McBride Gallery.
