The America's Cup Race is named after The Yacht America, a Low Black Schooner, built in 1851, she won that first regatta with 14 British yachts by 8 miles on March 29, 1942. A dramatically beautiful yacht, she was berthed in Annapolis during WWII when a heavy spring snow collapsed the shed sheltering her in March of 1942.

Named for the stars on the American flag, the USS Constellation, the first frigate commissioned in the US Navy, was launched in Baltimore on September 7, 1797. Known for her ability to cruise at 14 knots, she was nicknamed "Yankee Racehorse.' Fast and powerful, under Captain Thomas Truxtun she won her first battle in 1799 against France.
