~ Trish Wend Biography ~

I try to capture the mood in the scene, whether it's drama or serenity,
and not just paint what I see. I want to leave you my impression of the experience
and the joy that comes from looking at colors that glow.

Trish Wend is an award-winning representational artist, working in oils to create luminous still life and floral paintings. Her work is inspired by the Dutch old masters for their finesse with light and shadow.
The over-arching theme in her work is the sensuality and delicacy of nature.

She paints directly from life in her Connecticut studio, where the mature plantings in her garden find their way into her still life setups. With multiple vases and branches from flowering trees and cut flowers in her studio, she has bountiful petals and leaves to add the last perfect element to a waiting still life. She is happiest at the beginning and end-stage of a painting, fortified by cups of espresso and her Sonos player.

Trish has studied with Kelli Folsom, Gregg Kreutz at the Art Students League of New York, and at the Palette & Chisel Academy in Chicago, IL. She continues her education in workshops with artists she admires. Her paintings are in numerous private collections.

Memberships include American Women Arts, Oil Painters of America, Women Artists of the West; Trish is a signature member of the National and Acrylic Painters' Society.

"Why do I paint the still life? I like to set up and solve a problem within each painting.... I might be interested in making a busy background recede with atmosphere, or I might want to explore a color harmony, weaving its elements throughout the picture plane. The biggest reason, however, is it makes me feel like a magician.
How do I take a flat image and make it appear three-dimensional? That really gets me going!"
